Cathy
Murphy (U7) & Debbie Allen (U6) ~
As you may know, I coach three very young girls’ teams spanning
two age brackets and three divisions. They are such a
great group of girls and parents and I am genuinely proud to
have them involved in the local youth soccer program. I believe
that these families in particular will make an enormous
contribution to our programs throughout their participation as
they are positive, respectful, and supportive…not only of our
own players but of opponents, referees, and league & club
officials. I love what I do and feel very fortunate to have this
opportunity. I can’t imagine having to choose, prioritize, or
sacrifice my time with the different teams in order to
accommodate them all.
My Club Directors have worked very hard to accommodate a
training schedule that permits me the time that is needed to
properly develop these young players, and provide the girls with
the attention and coaching commitment that they deserve.
This would mean nothing if I couldn’t be with them on game day
to cheer them, encourage them, and coach them.
Certainly when you have this many teams participating with the
same coach, conflicts seem inevitable.
At lunch I reviewed the game schedules for all of my teams and I
don’t know how you did it, but I do not appear to have a single
conflict with any of my teams all season!
Not only are there no game conflicts / overlaps but there are no
8:00am, 10:00am, 1:00pm sequences that would have me at the
fields for 7 hours straight. I have done the 7:30am – 2:30pm
stretch many times before and it is grueling!

I believe that your cooperation and attention to such details is
what enables the coaches to provide a more beneficial learning
environment to the girls on game day. Not to mention, we are
actually able to have more fun with the girls and
enjoy the experience with the families, which is the whole
reason we should get involved with youth athletics and
mentorships in the first place.
It is obvious that your consideration for my time and team
responsibilities went beyond that which is expected from an
office of volunteers. I did not request any special attention to
my schedule and certainly did not expect anyone to try to
accommodate one coach out of many. I am very grateful for
your time & attention, and I am sure that my parents and
colleagues at Neusport will appreciate it as well.
Thank you very much, and best wishes for a successful season!
